About the course

A live, virtual training program designed to support Caribbean credit unions in developing or expanding their green lending programs, jointly supported by the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions and Inclusiv. The course will provide Credit Union staff and affiliates with the necessary training and knowledge to build these programs. Upon completion, credit unions will be better equipped to support low- and moderate-income individuals in achieving their green goals by offering both financing and guidance for sustainable, environmentally conscious initiatives.

Who Should Register

The Caribbean Green Lending training is best for lenders that:

  • Have limited or no green lending program
  • Can commit 6-8 hours a week to classwork, assignments, and the development of an implementation plan for their financial institution.

We recommend enrolling in teams of 2, and that at least one staff member has lending experience.

Gain New Skills

After completing this course, lenders will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamentals of green technology in transportation, housing, and small-scale agriculture.
  2. Articulate the concerns and community benefits of green consumer lending to credit union members.
  3. Evaluate your local market and communities by analyzing regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, community needs, and available government incentives to identify opportunities and challenges for implementing green consumer lending programs.
  4. Map the borrower journey to financing green projects and address non-financial barriers.
  5. Develop a plan to collaborate with (identify, vet, and manage) experts and contractors specializing in sustainable solutions for homes, transportation, and small-scale agriculture, while also supporting their development to better address the diverse needs of borrowers.
  6. Build loan products and develop business plans to grow a green home lending business.
